From Soccer To Biking

Two-time Paralympian Jamie Whitmore and family went to Tahoe for a youth soccer tournament, then took to bike parks in an attempt to escape the smoke from fires exploding in the west.

“We got really lucky staying just above the fire for the first day as we hit one of the Flume trails!” she wrote on Instagram. “Christian (one of Jamie’s twin boys) was right behind me for most of the ride. He stopped at the big downhill because he didn’t want to ride up! All the kids did really well riding the rock and wooden bridges!”

The soccer tournament was canceled as the Mosquito Fire raged over more than 70,000 acres in Tahoe National Forest northwest of Sacramento, California.

“Please pray for all the people affected by the Mosquito Fire. And the fire fighters!! We need rain!!” Whitmore posted.

Honoring Foot Drop Day

Jill Walsh, a three-time Paralympic medalist, took to social media in honor of National Foot Drop Awareness Day on Sept. 22.

Walsh is a retired New York state trooper and has multiple sclerosis. She has won a combined 14 Paralympic and world championships medals since appearing in her first world championships in 2014.

Her post in Instagram shows exactly what foot drop is.

Thank You, Hanover Fire

Kate Brim, who won her first two world titles at the road world championships this year and is now a resident athlete at the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Training Center, was happy to see a fire department truck when her blood sugar went down during a recent ride into the hills near Colorado Springs, Colorado.

“Thank the lord I was right by the Hanover fire department and they got me taken care of!” Brim posted on Instagram. “Hopefully the adventures begin to calm down!”

Oksana: ‘I Belong Here’

Oksana Masters, a 17-time Paralympic medalist in cycling and two other sports, is beginning to realize how good she really is.

A gold medalist in two cycling events last year at the Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020 and a two-time road world champion this year, Masters was among the headline athletes to join Nike at its 50th anniversary celebration in Los Angeles in May. She also joined tennis legend Billie Jean King and Academy Award-winning actress Julianne Moore as a guest speaker at the Tory Burch Foundation’s Embrace Ambition Summit in New York.

“I’m actually starting to realize I’m an athlete. I belong here,” Masters told TeamUSA.org.
